UV胶必须是通过紫外线照射到胶液的前提下才能固化，也就是无影胶中的光敏剂与接触到紫外线会与单体相接合，理论上没有紫外线光源的照射下无影胶几乎永远不固化。紫外线的来源有自然日光和人造光源两种。紫外线越强固化速度越快一般固化时间在10－60秒不等。对于自然日光而言，晴朗的天气阳光中的紫外线会比较强固化速度越快。但是，没有强烈阳光时只能用人造紫外线光源了。
根据具体的UV胶和客户使用的固化灯不同，不能一概而论，需要实验确定。紫外光强度高的，照射时间短，就可以固化，反之亦然。
